About Us

The Pride Society is a proud, queer space in academia dedicated to serving our community. As a University of Wisconsin registered student organization, we use our resources to provide educational, social and cultural opportunities for students, faculty/staff, and Madison area residents. We believe queer community is a crucial and often denied aspect for the well-being of queer people. We strive for an intersectional approach in our continued work of building a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.
The Pride Society, (TPS), formerly known as the Ten Percent Society, was founded in 1983 upon passage of Wisconsin's gay rights legislation. It is the oldest queer student org at UW Madison. TPS hosted its first dance that year in 1983, and we continue to host dances to this day. In 2016, TPS was awarded the Inclusivity Award for being the most inclusive student organization on campus. In Spring 2018, the TPS representatives for Qouncil were awarded the first Qouncil Org Leadership Award. In 2023, TPS celebrated its 40th anniversary.
